Dealing with persistent muscle tightness, stiff shoulders, back tension or restricted movement that does not improve with stretching or regular massage? Myofascial release is a hands-on treatment that targets tight or restricted fascia, the connective tissue surrounding your muscles. At Movmore Clinic in Dublin, each session is tailored to the areas causing discomfort, helping to ease tension, improve mobility and support more comfortable everyday movement.

How Does Myofascial Release Work?

Your therapist uses slow, sustained pressure and gentle stretching techniques on tight or restricted areas.

Unlike a traditional massage, the movements are slower and more targeted, giving the tissue time to relax and release tension. The treatment is adapted to your comfort level and the areas that need attention.

Benefits of Myofascial Release

Myofascial release may help to:

  • Reduce muscle tightness and tension
  • Improve flexibility and range of movement
  • Ease stiffness in the neck, shoulders, back and hips
  • Support recovery after exercise or repetitive movement
  • Improve comfort when moving

FAQs

Does myofascial release hurt?

You may feel firm pressure or temporary tenderness when the therapist works on a tight area, but the treatment should not feel unbearable. Your therapist will check your comfort throughout the session and adjust the pressure when needed.

What should I wear for my appointment?

Wear comfortable, flexible clothing. Depending on the area being treated, your therapist may ask you to adjust or remove some clothing while keeping you appropriately covered throughout the session.

Can I exercise after myofascial release?

Gentle movement is usually suitable, but you may prefer to avoid an intense workout immediately afterwards if the treated areas feel tender. Your therapist can advise you based on the treatment performed.

Is myofascial release suitable for back and shoulder tension?

It may help reduce muscular and fascial tightness around the back, neck and shoulders. However, persistent pain, numbness, weakness or pain following an injury should be medically assessed.
